One in four selected Europe as the place they’d most like to visit, with Asia pulling 17% of respondents as second most popular. Megan Magill, Wotif.com General Manager Brand, said while we’re seeing Australians holidaying closer to home, an interest in overseas destinations is strong and is reflected in the list. “Many Aussie travellers would like to experience a totally different culture and have listed Europe or The Wotif.com Travel Insights Survey also showed that while most Aussies continue to opt for more frequent shorter breaks, there has been an increase in the number of people saving up their annual leave for a longer one-off break. “While shorter breaks are still the preference for Aussies, more people are thinking about a longer holiday this quarter,” Magill said. “It’s still a small number of people at only 16% who are saving up their annual leave, but that’s up 8% from last quarter. Respondents to the survey also indicated they prefer to try new holiday destinations, rather than suffer from “travel inertia”.
