Body-conscious Aussies fear holiday Lycra!

Wotif.com reveals cycling holiday insights

BRISBANE – 28 September 2009: A survey of people considering taking a cycling holiday conducted by leading accommodation provider Wotif.com, has found that nearly a quarter of Aussies would rather brave painful holiday-hampering injuries or fall off their bike whilst taking in scenery, than be snapped wearing lycra!

20% of people surveyed said being photographed in dreaded tight-fitting garments was their worst cycling holiday fear.

A majority of people said Tuscany was their preferred cycling holiday location, while 51% said they would choose a cycling holiday primarily to spend time in the great outdoors.

“Some of the results that came through on this quirky survey gave us an interesting insight into what Aussies are looking for in a holiday,” Wotif.com General Manager Brand Megan Magill said.

“Even though Tuscany and the European Alps are very popular for cycling holidays, we found that a lot of Aussies would actually rather cycle at home in places like the Tasmanian West Coast or the Great Ocean Road than overseas.”

“We also found that most people thought a cycling holiday was a great opportunity to spend time with family while getting fit at the same time, as opposed to some of the more traditional family holiday ideas which often include kids and parents doing their own thing.”
